Schreibwettbewerb 2010
Folgender Text ist aus dem Roman "This must be the place" der in Berlin lebenden US-amerikanischen Schriftstellerin Anna Winger. Entwickle aus diesem Textanfang deine eigene Kurzgeschichte und reiche sie bis zum 15. September 2010 bei uns ein (mail@dai-nuernberg.de).
Die besten Short Stories werden im Beisein der Autorin Anna Winger im Oktober prämiert.
[...] Walter was discovered at the proverbial soda fountain, plucked from oblivion in his small village in the Alps to join the cast of the popular television drama Schönes Wochenende. The title meant Have a Nice Weekend. The soda fountain, in this case, was a large outdoor public swimming pool filled with screaming children, one of the thousands dotting the West German landscape with shiny blue plastic bobbles against the green. He had just finished high school and was working for the summer as a lifeguard until his fifteen months of compulsory military service began in September. Outside of work, he spent most of his free time lifting weights in his father's basement [...]. His ambitions, in so far as he had any, were to be a student for as long as possible and thus avoid working altogether. He had no prior acting experience. When Klara came up to him in his lifeguard chair and invited him to an audition the following week, her frosted hair teased up like a feather boa, she stood out gloriously from the crowd. Everyone at the pool noticed when she handed Walter her business card.
"All that weight training's finally paying off, Pretty Boy," the other guys said afterward. [...]

Am 24.10.2008 trafen sich die Teilnehmer des Schreibwettbewerbs mit der Bestseller- und Jugendautorin Libba Bray zur Bibliotheksnacht Bayern im DAI-Amerikahaus. Bereits vorher hatten sie an ihren kurzen, fantasievollen Aufsätzen gefeilt, die nur einen kurzen Abschnitt von Libba Brays Buch „Der geheime Zirkel- Gemmas Visionen" zur Grundlage hatten. Doch dies sollte die einzige Gemeinsamkeit der Short Stories bleiben. Denn die Geschichten einer jeden Autorin und eines jeden Autors sollten eine neue, eigentümliche Wendung nehmen.
Vor einem aufmerksamen Auditorium stellten drei junge Schriftsteller ihre Werke gemeinsam mit Libba Bray vor.
Die drei Gewinner 2008 waren :
Florian Sauer, "Army of Nameless Creatures"
Hannah El-Hitami, "Dollhouse"
Nicole Lindner, "A Monstrous Incidence"
