The Question of Identity
Lehrerfortbildung mit Prof. Matthew Henry
On the occasion of Black History Month in February, we offer teachers and teachers in training the possibility to enhance their or refresh their knowledge of African American Literature. Prof. Henry focuses on the intricate question of identity and gives opportunity to discuss the contradictory concept of race that lies at the heart of US culture.
Matthew Henry is Professor of English and Cultural Studies at Richland College in Dallas, Texas. He has published essays in African American Review, The Journal of Popular Culture, and Teaching English in the Two-Year College. His scholarship on The Simpsons has appeared in two book collections: Leaving Springfield: The Simpsons and the Possibility of Oppositional Culture (2004) and, most recently, Homer Simpson Marches on Washington: Dissent through American Popular Culture (2010). During the academic year 2010/11, Dr. Henry is serving as Fulbright Professor at Potsdam University.
