The book of the evening is The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
Set in the Deep South during the 1960s, The Help depicts three women as they come to terms with racial prejudices and civil rights. Skeeter Phelan is pursuing a career as a writer. Disturbed by the sudden disappearance of her life-long maid and the discrimination faced by black servants, she decides to write a tell-all book with the help of two black women, Minnie and Abilene. The publishing of the book forces the small town of Jackson, Mississippi to reexamine race relations and society.
