Among the many religious groups in the US, the Amish with their tradition oriented rules have always been considered as special. In his talk, Dr. Reschly traces the foundations and particularities of Amish faith and social life. To demonstrate their role as a strange, or even ‘alien,’ element in US culture, he turns to representations in popular culture, such as in the mysterious “XFiles”- series from the 1990s.
