Vortrag: Obama and Faith-Based Politics
14.11.2011 (18:00)
Andre C. Willis, Assistant Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at Yale Divinity School
When thinking about American evangelicalism and politics, people today think "George Bush" or even the "Tea Party". Few, however, would think "Barack Obama". For all the changes Obama was expected to usher in, one concerning religion is probably the one that people did not see coming. Yet, President Obama may have introduced exactly that kind of change by bringing to Washington a progressive evangelical politics focused less on personal moralizing and more on furthering the greater social good. With Obama's take on faith and political engagement and despite the strenght of the Christian right, old-time religion in the US may be on to something new.
